Polish Yachting Association, together with Hungarian Sailing Federation and Wind Hunters Club from Romania, develops volunteers mobility project VolunSailing, within European Committee Erasmus+sport Programme. The most recent meeting took place in Budapest, and its main objective revolved around analyzing over hundred thirty surveys, gathered amongst clubs, regarding their volunteering needs
For the second time, after the meeting in Balatonfüred in August this year, VolunSailing working meeting took place in Hungary:
– We hosted another VolunSailing meeting in Hungary, this time at the University of Physical Education in Budapest. In two and a half days of work, we discussed the results of the surveys done in our three countries among clubs and our members. In Hungary, we also made research amongst sailors, who have racing permits in our Federation. We received significant value, meeting Doctor Szilvia Perény, an expert organizing and leading volunteers in various sports and non-sports events. In two and a half hours long discussion with her, we received a lot of expertise and knowledge, that we will carry on in our project. She has broad experience from major events in Hungary, like world championships in different sports, but also Eucharistic Conference we just had in September, which gathered three and a half thousand volunteers just in this one event. We appreciate, that she agreed to share her vast experience with our project – said Andras Holczhauser, Hungarian Sailing Federation Secretary-General.
Alexandru Micu, The President of the Romanian Sailing Federation emphasizes that information gathered to date, will feed into the work before the next meeting in his country:
– We have made great progress on the surveys we conducted in our countries. We will compare results between the three countries and issue the conclusion of this analysis. So far we can see first c, that most of the clubs share the same need, which is assistance from volunteers mostly during the events organization. This is great feedback, cause we know where our main focus must be directed at while creating the VolunSailing system. The next meeting is planned to take place at our home club Wind Hunter in Constanta in Romania. Surely we will have a solid base by that time, to enter the final stage of works on the VolunSailing system – commented Alexandru Micu, The President of Romanian Sailing Federation.
Maciej Szafran, the Leader of Training and Development Department in Polish Yachting Association notes, that the great ambitions of creating a volunteering system, dedicated especially to sailing organizations, reflect in the effect of work progress to date, achieved by the project’s international workgroup:
– Yet again, we had a chance to experience great Hungarian organization and hospitality, for which I sincerely thank Andreas Hlzhuser and his whole team. The meeting was very fruitful, we summarized recent work and planned further tasks. Now, before the next meeting in Romania in June next year, we will develop a document describing a volunteering system in English, and translate it to Hungarian, Romanian and Polish. Certainly, it will be confronted with EU legislation, so we could reach the main objective, which is the creation of an international volunteering system for sports, and especially sailing organizations, for gaining and cooperating with volunteers, containing guidelines on main areas when working with volunteers.
In the next phase, when most of our work will be concluded, we plan to consult the final version of our document with other sailing federations within Eurosaf, and possibly also with World Sailing Development and Regions Committee, which I am honoured to work in. We will be able to present the results of our work by the end of next year, and that is when we will start to promote it. However, already now we started to think, how to develop this two-year-long project in the future.
In this meeting, the Polish Yachting Association team was joined by Martyna Rawicz and Anna Sokulska, that will support our workgroup further on. Of course, the Hungarian side organized the entire meeting, and as usual, Anna Kuder led our substantive work flawlessly – said Maciej Szafran.
