After the first kick-off meeting in Warsaw, which initiated the project, the next meeting took place in Balatonfüred, Hungary and was very task-oriented:

– We need to know the real needs of our clubs, so we created a questionnaire that we will send to the associated members in all of our countries. In this way, we will receive information on what they really need in terms of volunteering in sailing – said Andras Holczhauser, Secretary General of the Hungarian Sailing Federation, and added: – We checked the appearance of the website of the project (www.volunsailing.eu), which is being developed by the Polish Yachting Association. We have made some constructive comments here and discussed what we will be focusing on in the upcoming months. We will have answers from the above-mentioned questionnaire in the fall, which will allow us to prepare for the next meeting, which is to take place in November in Budapest. I am very satisfied with the course of the last meeting. Even though we were quite overwhelmed by the amount of work, because it took place immediately after the Kékszalag regatta on Lake Balaton, which is a big event for us. But the VolunSailing meeting was very creative and we can continue to constructively work on the best solutions for the sailing community in the field of volunteering, said Andras Holczhauser.

At the Balatonfüred meeting, PZŻ was represented by Anna Kuder, Weronika Dyjas and Maciej Szafran from the Department of Training and Development. Piotr Kula from the PZŻ Marketing and Communication Department joined on-line for the part of the meeting devoted to discussing the promotion of the project. The Romanian club Wind Hunters was represented by Alexandru Micu – Commander of the club and President of the Romanian Yachting Federation, Armando Zahariade and Simona Prikop.

The meeting began on the last day of the popular Kékszalag regatta. Maciej Szafran did not hide his admiration for this event, seeing the need to implement the VolunSailing program also for the needs of such events: – The working meeting took place immediately after the Kékszalag (Blue Ribbon Regatta). Keeping this in mind, we arrived at the place on the last day of this event. What is worth mentioning is the phenomenal ending of the regatta that we have witnessed. We saw the last crew that was in time (two days from the start) cross the finish line. The winning team greeted them phenomenally at the finish. Together they opened the champagne and posed for photos. It was a beautiful event on the water, the winners and the last ranked crew, not counting those who did not finish the regatta in the required time. We were also pleased to admire the end of the event which is an important event for the sailing community. Each year about five hundred yachts race in this event, which sums up to between three and five thousand participants of the event. We were very impressed with the integrative nature of this event. Not only as a sports regatta, but also as a cultural and entertainment event. I think that in order to carry out such a beautiful and valuable regatta, apart from professional service, volunteers are indispensable, and the project we are implementing here is to support clubs in this area – said Maciej Szafran, the leader of the PZŻ Department of Training and Development, and added:

– We received an absolutely excellent reception from the Hungarian Sailing Federation, for which we would like to thank the hosts. Especially to Andras Holzhauser and Nikolett Somogyi. The discussions were brief and substantive. It was our first working meeting, not counting the kick-off meeting in Warsaw. We have shared further work with our partners from Hungary and Romania and have already started work in line with our previous declarations and promises. We operate in the areas we have outlined, and we are planning another working meeting again in Hungary, in Budapest at the end of November this year – added Maciej Szafran.

The VolunSailing project is implemented as part of the funds obtained by the PZŻ from the Erasmus+ Sport program coordinated by the European Commission. It aims to promote and activate volunteering during the organization of sailing events, and to create standards and procedures in form of ready-to-use documents which can be implemented both in sailing organizations of different size across Europe, as well as in the structures of EUROSAF and World Sailing.

We informed about obtaining a grant for the implementation of the project in the amount of 45 thousand euro in October: https://pya.org.pl/polski-zwiazek-zeglarski/news/pzz-pozyskal-grant-z-programu-erasmus-sport-na-rozwoj-wolontariatu

Project website: volunsailing.eu was created and is already published on the Internet, and as part of the current work mentioned above, it is currently being translated into English, Romanian and Hungarian.

Supporting the mobility of volunteers, coaches, managers and staff of non-profit sport organisations – this is a short description of the aim of the VolunSailing project, initiated by the Polish Sailing Association and implemented jointly with the Hungarian Sailing Federation and the Wind Hunters sailing club from Romania.
